Judge complains of RACISM after being criticised for misconduct by disciplinary panel

  • Peter Herbert issued damning verdict on justice system after he was disciplined for criticising a ruling by a fellow judge
  • He had lashed out at judge’s decision to bar disgraced ex-mayor Lutfur Rahman and said it was motivated by belief ethnic minorities weren’t regarded as British
  • Disciplinary panel found he had acted inappropriately but Herbert claimed they wouldn’t have treated a white judge as harshly

 

One of Britain’s few black judges has claimed the justice system is racist after he was disciplined for criticising a colleague.

Peter Herbert was disciplined after lashing out at the justice system and a fellow judge at a rally in support of Lutfur Rahman, the former mayor of Tower Hamlets who was found guilty of electoral fraud and barred from elected office.
