Student Advisory Service
The SBL Student Advisory Service (SAS) is dedicated to helping law students reach their full potential.
SAS offers a one-to-one environment for students to discuss and obtain the necessary information that will enable them to address their individual needs, questions and concerns. The service was developed as a result of a year-long pilot undertaken by the SBL for the College of Law. The pilot revealed a continuing and growing need for an advisory service that is sensitive to and takes account of the obstacles faced by ethnic minority students, whilst at the same time, delivering proactive programmes that are designed to raise their awareness of the legal employment market. The service’s main areas include:
- Career advice and counselling
- CV and cover letter evaluation
- Dealing with interviews – tips, advice and preparation
- Study and revision advice
- Mentoring and coaching
- Skills development and enhancement
- Personal development (building self-esteem and confidence)
- Legal writing and analysis skills
- Examination/ assessment advice and strategies
- Dealing with discrimination and appeals
- Obtaining training contracts and pupillages
- Work experience, mini pupillages and vacation schemes
Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom
